1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Outland ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a notice within the Service. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

2. Description of Service

Outland is a personal finance platform that allows you to track transactions, manage budgets, monitor net worth, and view your finances across multiple currencies. You may connect bank accounts via Plaid to automatically import financial data, or import data manually via CSV.

3. Beta Service

Outland is currently in beta. This means:

  • The Service may contain bugs, errors, or inaccuracies
  • Features may change, be added, or removed without notice
  • There may be occasional downtime or service interruptions
  • Automated transaction categorization may not always be accurate
  • Exchange rate data is cached and may not reflect real-time rates

You are responsible for verifying the accuracy of all data displayed by the Service before relying on it for any financial decisions.

4. Account Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the security of your account credentials
  • All activity that occurs under your account
  • The accuracy of data you input manually
  • Ensuring your use complies with applicable laws

If you add household members to your account, you acknowledge that those members will have access to the financial data within your shared household.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or other user accounts
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code
  • Overload, disrupt, or interfere with the Service infrastructure
  • Use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the Service beyond normal use
  • Resell, redistribute, or sublicense access to the Service

Violation of these terms may result in suspension or termination of your account.

6. Financial Disclaimer

Outland is a financial tracking and visualization tool. It is not a financial advisor, tax advisor, accountant, or investment advisor. The Service:

  • Does not provide financial, tax, legal, or investment advice
  • Does not guarantee the accuracy of transaction categorization, currency conversions, or calculated figures
  • Does not replace professional financial planning or tax preparation
  • Should not be the sole basis for any financial decision
  • Has read-only access to connected bank accounts and cannot move money

Always consult a qualified professional before making financial decisions based on data displayed in the Service.

7. Bank Connectivity via Plaid

When you connect a bank account, you authorize Plaid Inc. to access your financial data on your behalf. Plaid's services are subject to Plaid's own End User Privacy Policy. Outland does not receive or store your bank login credentials. You may disconnect any bank account at any time, and you may revoke Plaid's access independently through Plaid's portal at my.plaid.com.

8. Your Data

You retain ownership of all data you submit to or import into the Service. By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to process, store, and display your data solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you.

You may export your data at any time via CSV export. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us at hello@outlandfinance.com.

9. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, code, features, and branding, is the intellectual property of Outland. These terms do not grant you any rights to our intellectual property except the limited right to use the Service as intended.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUTLAND AND ITS OPERATOR SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Loss of profits, data, or business opportunities
  • Errors or inaccuracies in categorization, currency conversion, or calculations
  • Financial losses resulting from reliance on data displayed by the Service
  • Service interruptions, downtime, or data loss
  • Unauthorized access to your account or data

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Outland and its operator from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses arising from your use of the Service, violation of these terms, or infringement of any rights of a third party.

12. Termination

You may delete your account at any time by contacting us at hello@outlandfinance.com. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately.

13. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States. Any disputes arising from these terms or the Service shall be resolved in the courts of competent jurisdiction.
